Galvanised Iron is very common in New Zealand and is ideal for most roofing needs. Generally unpainted, the material comes in two standard gauges: .40 guage - is used on solid sarked roofs and .55 gauge - used for purlined roofs. It is tough wearing and with maintenance (cleaning gutters, painting after 5 years and 15 years) can last up to 30 years.
